Africa-Press – Eswatini. Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla has departed the country for Doha, Qatar, where she is attending the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) as the official representative of His Majesty King Mswati III and the Kingdom of Eswatini.
DPM Dladla and her delegation left Eswatini on Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, through King Mswati III International Airport. The high-level summit brings together global leaders to assess progress on social development and to renew commitments first made three decades ago.
Before departure, Dladla spoke briefly to the media, explaining that the King had mandated her to present Eswatini’s progress on social inclusion and welfare initiatives.
“His Majesty has sent us to share with the world what we have done to improve social inclusion for Emaswati,” she said. “This summit is important because the United Nations has noted a global decline in social development standards, and countries are being challenged to reflect on the commitments made 30 years ago.”
The first World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995, where the global community pledged to improve social security, reduce poverty, and promote equality. However, the UN has since raised concerns that many of those early goals are now under threat.
Dladla highlighted that issues such as youth unemployment and inadequate access to basic needs including clean water, education, and healthcare remain global challenges — and Eswatini is among nations expected to outline its strategies, progress, and remaining gaps.
“The UN wants every country to report honestly on where they are and what more needs to be done,” she added.
The summit is expected to address rising inequalities, review global social protection systems, and develop renewed strategies for sustainable social development.
Dladla’s participation underscores Eswatini’s commitment to global dialogue on social justice and its efforts to prioritise the well-being of citizens, in line with the King’s vision for an inclusive and resilient nation.
