Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane Highlanders AM has mourned the passing of club legend Phumuza “El Khatib” Ntshangase, popularly known as “Inyelenyele,” with his family confirming the sad news. The club paid tribute to the former national team winger, describing him as a fearless and devoted servant of the Black Bull whose influence stretched far beyond his playing days.

In a statement released on its official Facebook page, Mbabane Highlanders expressed deep sorrow at the loss, highlighting Ntshangase’s central role in one of the club’s most successful eras. Renowned for his blistering pace and dazzling skill, he was part of the golden generation that reached the CAF Champions League quarterfinals in 1986, a historic achievement that elevated the club’s continental profile.“It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a son of The Black Bull who served this great institution with grace, humility, and joy,” the club said, underlining his impact both on and off the field.

Beyond his playing career, Ntshangase remained actively involved in football and within the Highlanders family. He contributed to assembling the current squad and travelled with the team to Pietermaritzburg for a preseason camp, demonstrating his continued commitment to the club’s growth and success.

His service to the game also extended into football administration, where he held leadership roles within the Manzini Regional Football Association, serving as chairman and later as vice chairman during the era of Johannes “Ace” Siboza.

The club further described him as more than just a footballer, praising his warmth, wisdom, and enduring passion for the game, qualities that left a lasting impression on teammates, supporters, and the wider football community.

“His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of the Highlanders faithful,” the statement read.

Mbabane Highlanders concluded its tribute with a heartfelt farewell: “Rest in peace, Mgazi. May your spirit run free down the wings of eternity, where the grass is forever green and the game never ends.”Ntshangase’s passing marks the loss of a significant figure in Eswatini football, remembered for his talent, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the sport and the club he proudly served.
