Africa-Press – Eswatini. Autism Eswatini has encouraged medical professionals to strengthen support for children living with autism as the country marks Autism Awareness Month, highlighting the growing need for specialised services to address complex and co-occurring conditions affecting many families in Eswatini.
The organisation stated that families continue to face new and evolving challenges as children with autism grow, making professional medical support and specialised care essential. Autism Eswatini supports parents through needs assessments, guidance and ongoing engagement, but noted that gaps in specialised services remain a major concern for many families.
According to Autism Eswatini, autism often occurs alongside other conditions, commonly referred to as co-occurring conditions, which require additional medical attention and tailored interventions. The organisation explained that each child presents unique needs, and some may be diagnosed with autism together with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which requires its own structured treatment and support approach.
Autism Eswatini emphasised that collaboration between medical professionals, therapists, educators and families is critical in ensuring early diagnosis, proper treatment and long-term care for children living with autism. The organisation said strengthening specialised services would help improve the quality of life for affected children and provide families with the support they need to manage daily challenges.
The organisation further encouraged stakeholders in the healthcare sector to work together in building a more inclusive and responsive medical support system that caters for children with autism and related conditions across the country.
Despite the challenges faced by families, Autism Eswatini noted that many children continue to show remarkable growth, resilience and potential when provided with the right support and care. The organisation said this progress continues to inspire hope and reinforces the importance of raising awareness and strengthening professional support during Autism Awareness Month.
