Africa-Press – Eswatini. Newly appointed Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo has promised to serve the people of Eswatini, His Majesty the King and Indlovukazi with due diligence and utmost honesty.
This pledge was made by Nxumalo during a telephonic interview on his first day at the office as government’s mouthpiece yesterday. He expressed gratefulness to serve the kingdom’s government for the duration of his three-year contract.
“I am humbled by the appointment and promise to serve with due diligence and utmost honesty at all times,” Nxumalo said.
He made particular reference to former principals that include Mathendele Dlamini, Princess Tsandzile and Tibiyo TakaNgwane Managing Director (MD) Dr Absalom Themba Dlamini whom he thanked for wise leadership and sound advice.
When asked what would be his motto as he serves government in the crucial position, Nxumalo promised to ensure that Emaswati were always up to date on what was being done by their government at all times to improve their lives.
In terms of what value he would add into the government press office, Nxumalo said he would always see into it that the people understand all government policies and implementation status at all times.
Quizzed as to how government’s communications strategy would be improved going forward, Nxumalo politely requested to unpack the new action plan to be implemented at a later stage.
Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Simanga Mamba on Thursday revealed that Nxumalo would take over the reigns from Sabelo Dlamini, who was recently posted to serve as Director at the Eswatini National Broadcasting Information Services (EBIS). In the absence of an interim spokesperson, Thabile Mduli kept the fires burning at the Hospital Hill.
Mamba said Nxumalo had been appointed into the position under Prime Minister (PM) Cleopas Dlamini’s office with immediate effect. He explained that the political analyst had been appointed into the position in accordance with section 187 of the Constitution. The CSC chairman mentioned that the eventual replacement of Dlamini had been finalised after a vigorous process of interviews and wide consultations with all relevant parties.
“We wish Nxumalo a very successful tenure as a government spokesperson. We hope and pray he will get the necessary support from all parties while he executes the national task which is of paramount importance,” Mamba said.
Nxumalo fills a position which has in the past been occupied by current Kings Office Communications Director Percy Simelane and Macanjana Motsa.
Nxumalo’s appointment came in the wake of the secondment of the acting South African High Commissioner Vuli Kunene, who was then instructed to stay put in his position by his line ministry.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thuli Dladla clarified that Vuli remained an employee of her ministry stationed at the Eswatini High Commission offices in Pretoria, as he holds fort for former Taiwan Councillor Lindiwe Kunene, who was recently appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III as substantive High Commissioner to South Africa.
Dladla explained that Lindiwe was still in Taiwan winding up at her previous job, stating that Vuli would be stationed in Pretoria until he has done the necessary handover and ensured that the incoming substantive high commissioner has settled in well.
She said the ministry would then report to authorities and get guidance as to where Vuli would be deployed next.
