Africa-Press – Eswatini. Three armed robbers fired gunshots at Tandoori Express and went away with E19 000 in cash, which they took from the manager of the eatery at gunpoint.
This incident took place around 8pm on Thursday at the eatery located at Manzini Bus Rank. One of the managers of the eatery, Rony Hussain, said the robbery lasted about three minutes at most. He said when closing the business at the end of the day, together with his brother, they offered leftover food as per their norm, to some destitute children, who normally collected same by the door of the restaurant.
He said while they were distributing the food, one man who had covered his face with a balaclava and armed with a gun, appeared from nowhere pointed the firearm at him and demanded that he should surrender the daily collections. He said the armed robber threatened to shoot him if he failed to cooperate. At first, he said he was reluctant to heed the gunman’s directive and within a twinkle of an eye, two more armed robbers, who were wearing caps, emerged from nowhere and reiterated their colleague’s demand, that he should surrender the money, failing which, they would shoot him.
Kicked
According to the manager, he asked them not to shoot him, but one of them kicked him on the thigh and continued to tell him to surrender the money if he valued his life. He said they emphasised that they would shoot him dead if he continued to refuse to give them the money. He said later on, he realised that the situation was going to get out of hand if he continued to withhold the money, thus he surrendered the sum of E19 000. He said after handing over the money, they demanded more. He said he tried to explain to them that he did not have more money with him, but his explanation seemed to fall on deaf ears as they randomly fired about three gunshots and one of the bullets missed his brother by inches.
Thereafter, he said the robbers grabbed his brother’s iPhone and fled the scene. He said they then called the police, who came and recorded some statements. Chief Police Information and Communication Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter. She confirmed that three gunmen attacked Tandoori Express on Thursday night and stole a sum of money amounting to E19 000 at gunpoint.
