3 GOLD MEDALS IN 3 WEEKS, COACH SIFUNDZA

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Winning three gold medals in just three weeks is no small achievement, but for Themba Sifundza, the victories are not about luck or shortcuts they are the result of discipline, research, and an unrelenting drive to be the best.

The first gold came on the 9th of August during the Namibia finals. Just a week later, upon returning home, Sifundza guided his athletes to another win at the Series 2 finals against REPS. The momentum did not stop there, as on the 8th of September, his team once again triumphed in the finals against the same rivals.

Reflecting on his journey, he insists there is no secret formula: “It’s just dedication, hard work, research, and the drive to do well and be the best in all you do. I hate losing, even though it’s a part of sport, but I never prepare for it.”

Transitioning from athlete to coach has been transformative for him, shaping his outlook and instilling a deeper sense of responsibility. “Being a coach has made me grow so much. It has taught me how to lead because you become a leader and a mentor to your athletes. There are things I used to do when I was just an athlete which I can’t do now, because a lot of people look up to me.”

Behind the medals lies a life of sacrifice. Balancing the demands of being a coach with those of being a father and family man has brought valuable lessons. “It requires a lot of sacrifices, something I have learnt while still on this journey. Being a father has also contributed to how I do things, both for my athletes and my kids.”

Above all, he believes that coaches, like their athletes, must always remain learners. “Coaches are students we should learn every day. Learn from a defeat, learn from a win, learn from our athletes, and from how other coaches do things locally and abroad. Never get tired of learning.”

With this mindset, it is clear that his story is not just about the medals, but about growth, resilience, and the continuous pursuit of excellence.
