Africa-Press – Eswatini. Reports suggest that MoMo Cup defending champions Nsingizini Hotspurs are preparing for this coming Sunday’s MoMo Cup finals without Head Coach Meck Mwase. The Malawi-born gaffer, it was reliably gathered, had not been attending training sessions since Monday. “He is being frustrated and has screamed interference,” alleged an impeccable source. The champions will face last year’s runners-up Moneni Pirates in the first semi-final on Sunday at 9am. Mwase could only confirm that he had not been with the Nhlangano side in training for some days, but refuted claims that it was due to frustration. “I am not well these days; that is why I have been absent,” Mwase said.
When asked if he would be available for the match against the ‘Sea Robbers’ he said it would depend on his health condition. “I’m not sure as if I will be present as yet. It will depend on how if I feel on the scheduled date,” he said. Mwase joined the team on a two-year contract. He became part of the high earning coaches in the country as his salary was estimated to be around E18 000.
Experience
It is said that his local and international experience earned him the hot seat against other local and international coaches who were shortlisted for the post. Mwase’s renowned achievement in his career was that he placed the Malawian National team at a historic finish of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January, following a quarter-final finish. He has also coached Mbabane Highlanders during the 2016/2017 season.
Meanwhile, attempts to reach the club’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mnotfo Dlamini failed as his phone rang unanswered.
