Africa-Press – Eswatini. Alpheous Nxumalo has been appointed government spokesperson.

This was confirmed by Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Simanga Mamba who revealed that Nxumalo would take over the reigns from Sabelo Dlamini who was recently posted to serve as Director at Eswatini National Broadcasting Information Services (EBIS).

In the interim, Deputy Government Spokesperson Thabile Mduli kept the fires burning at the Hospital Hill.

Mamba said Nxumalo had been appointed into the position under Prime Minister (PM) Cleopas Dlamini’s office with immediate effect. He explained that the political analyst had been appointed into the position in accordance with section 187 of the Constitution.

The CSC chairman mentioned that the eventual replacement of Dlamini had been finalised after a vigorous process of interviews and wide consultations with all relevant parties.

“We wish Nxumalo a very successful tenure as a government Spokesperson. We hope and pray he will get the necessary support from all parties while he executes the national task which is of paramount importance,” Mamba said.

Reached for comment, Nxumalo referred all questions to either Mamba or Principal Secretary (PS) at the PM’s Office Bertram Stewart who said he could neither deny nor confirm the appointment since he had not yet received any correspondence from CSC.

“I will only be in a position to comment when in the office tomorrow after seeing the correspondence you are asking me about. For now I am not aware of anything to that effect,” Stewart briefly said.

Nxumalo fills a position which has in the past been occupied by current Kings Office Communications Director Percy Simelane and Macanjana Motsa.

It should be noted that the latest development on Nxumalo’s appointment comes in the wake of news to the effect that Acting South African High Commissioner Vuli Kunene had also been tipped for the post.

However, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thuli Dladla clarified that Vuli remained an employee of her ministry stationed at the Eswatini High Commission offices in Pretoria, as he holds fort for former Taiwan Councilor, Lindiwe Kunene, who was recently appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III as substantive High Commissioner to South Africa.

Dladla explained that Lindiwe was still in Taiwan winding up at her previous job, stating that Vuli would be stationed in Pretoria until he had done the necessary handover and ensured that the incoming substantive High Commissioner had settled in well. She said the ministry would then report to authorities and get guidance as to where Vuli would be deployed next.
