Africa-Press – Eswatini. Athletics Eswatini has taken a major step towards modernising athletics event management in the country by inviting affiliated clubs to nominate delegates for an upcoming three-day workshop on Electronic Timing Systems. The training is scheduled for 10 – 12 October 2025 and will be hosted under the federation’s technical development programme.
According to a memo circulated to all clubs, the workshop aims to equip participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to operate electronic timing systems during competitions a crucial component in delivering accurate results and raising the professional standards of local athletics.
Each affiliated club is required to nominate at least one delegate, who must meet specific criteria:
Be a Swazi citizen
Be computer literate
Be willing and able to work under pressure for extended hours
Have access to and bring along a personal laptop
Athletics Eswatini emphasised that the initiative will not only enhance the federation’s technical capacity but also benefit individual clubs by strengthening their ability to manage events efficiently.
Speaking to this publication, Athletics Eswatini Chief Operation Officer (COO), Mathokoza Dlamini said that the programme is here to give Eswatini Athletes exposure. “This is an electronic timing programme aimed at giving Eswatini athletes the experience because some may not understand how it works. So this is for exposure so that when we need someone during athletics events we will have one who is locally equiped.”
The adoption of electronic timing systems is seen as a game-changer for local athletics, ensuring fairness, precision, and credibility in competitions, while aligning Eswatini with international standards.
