Africa-Press – Eswatini. Derby hosts Mbabane Swallows have collected E153 440 in Sunday’s MTN Premier League clash against traditional arch-rivals Mbabane Highlanders.
According to reports, 3 836 spectators watched the biggest match in the country, which also brought together all types of people for what some dubbed a family day. Each ticket was sold for E40 in the single header, also watched by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima.
The two soccer giants played to a 1-all draw under wet conditions at Mavuso Sports Centre. Lanky defender Thami Zulu opened the scoresheet for the black and white outfit, while Mandla Palma let in an own goal, while trying to clear the ball away, to make the score 1-1.
Mbabane Swallows Public Relations Officer, Knowledge Ngwenya confirmed the number of supporters who watched the match and thanked everyone for making the day a pleasant one.
“I can only confirm that 3 836 supporters watched the match. We really appreciate the attendance from both clubs despite that the weather wasn’t good. The good behaviour of supporters hasn’t gone unnoticed. This is the kind of spirit we need in stadiums. Football was the winner on Sunday,” he said.
The traditional arch-rivals have an unfinished business, as they will meet again in the second round, with Mbabane Highlanders being the hosts.
Meanwhile, Swallows midfielder Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini was named man of the match.
