Africa-Press – Eswatini. Things are looking good for Mbabane Swallows utility player Kwakhe Thwala, who has returned to South African side Chippa United to agree on personal terms with the Dstv Premiership side.
This comes after the former Young Buffaloes player was called for assessment by Chippa United in December.
He left the country on Sunday morning and did not play in their MTN Premier League match against Denver Sundowns, where they settled for a 1-1 draw. A source close to the matter confirmed that Thwala had returned to South Africa to finalise his deal with the team.
“Their decision to keep the negotiations confidential hints at the seriousness of their pursuit and the desire to avoid any disruptions or publicity.
What I can tell you is that the player passed the trials during the first assessment. Swallows are now waiting for the player to agree personal terms with Chippa and take it from there,” said the source.
“The clubs have agreed in principle on the terms. The player still needs to agree though. But I think he has already signed the deal.” He made it clear that the player was as good as gone.
“It’s only a matter of finalsing the deal but everything is under control. We might wake up to the news that Kwakhe is officially a Chippa United player.”
Mbabane Swallows Public Relations Officer Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya confirmed that the player was not part of the squad during their match against Sundowns.
Ngwenya was reluctant to confirm that Thwala had returned to South Africa, hence he said they still didn’t know the future of the player with Chippa United, who is still a Swallows player.
The player, who was once the subject of interest from another South African club Royal AM, has been a revelation since he joined Swallows from Young Buffaloes.
Another source close to the matter said he was told by the player that he was joining Chippa United.
“He told me that he was going to South Africa to sign on the dotted line.
“I have no doubt that he will not play for Mbabane Swallows in the second round. Chippa will soon unveil the player on their official website.”
Thwala’s skills and experience make him an attractive prospect for clubs seeking midfield reinforcements.
