Africa-Press – Eswatini. There are bogus doctors who are on the loose.
They are allegedly using the name of Mkhiwa Clinic to lure their clients who desperately seek services to terminate their pregnancies.
It has been established that the two bogus doctors are running a Facebook account, which looks similar to that of the official website of Mkhiwa Clinic, located next to Zakhele Sports ground in the Manzini Region.
It has been gathered that the con artists gave directions to the pregnant women and instructed them to fetch the supposed abortion medication in the form of tablets, within the very corridors of the private clinic. Making the unsuspecting women believe they were authentic Mkhiwa Clinic doctors.
Well-placed sources within the clinic disclosed to Eswatini News that these were women who were said to be less than 10 weeks pregnant. While those who were over the 10 weeks pregnancy mark had to undergo a backroom surgery at an undisclosed location in Manzini.
Victim
Worth noting is that abortion is still illegal in the Kingdom of Eswatini. The only time abortion is allowed is when the woman has been a victim of rape or in a case whereby there are complications in the pregnancy, whereby the life of the mother is on the line. Moreover, Eswatini laws strictly prohibit abortion. An increase in the number of women who started visiting Mkhiwa Clinic after complications arose from the illegal abortions, drew the clinic’s management attention on the criminal activity taking place.
A source disclosed that the women would boldly state that they were given abortion tablets in the very corridors or had procedures done outside the hospital by so-called Mkhiwa Clinic doctors. The sources disclosed that this prompted the private clinic to take matters up and alert every staff member. It is said that every staff member was now on high alert and one of the unsuspecting fake doctors arrived at the hospital corridors to meet one of his clients as per usual, little did he know that he was being watched closely and immediately when he met his purported client, the clinic staff and security pounced on him.
Arrest
He was placed on citizens arrest at one of the wards at the clinic by the angry staff, while police were called and he is currently under arrest awaiting his day in court. The second man he was allegedly working with is still being sought out by police. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phi-ndile Vilakati said the accused will appear before the Manzini Magistrates Court. In the Republic of South Africa (SA), abortion is legal. An abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy. It’s also sometimes known as a termination of pregnancy. The pregnancy is ended either by taking medicines or having a surgical procedure.
Abortion
Abortions can only be carried out under the care of a hospital or a licensed clinic, where they are legal. Particularly in SA, if you’re less than 10 weeks pregnant you may be able to have a medical abortion at home after an initial appointment with the hospital or clinic.
