Africa-Press – Eswatini. BUCKSWOOD School students are excited at the opportunity of meeting His Majesty King Mswati III.
The students arrived in the country on Sunday and were part of the throngs of well-wishers who welcomed His Majesty upon his return from Zambia at the King Mswati III International airport on Wednesday.
While in the country, the students might get an opportunity to meet with His Majesty.
“I have personally been fortunate enough to have gotten the opportunity to meet the King twice already. I met him for the first time in Dubai and then the second time was last year, when I was in the country for our annual Buckswood visit.
I’m looking forward to meeting him again this year,” said 16-year-old Jaden Meyer. Mikito Tanaka (18), also concurred with his classmate and said he was fascinated by the prospects of meeting the last remaining absolute Monarch in Africa.
“The experience of being here at the airport to welcome him from his working visit was surreal and unique for me, so I am very excited to see His Majesty up close because he is a very inspirational man.”
This year’s visit is the British Private School’s 17th to the country as part of its volunteer programme.
“We brought 30 students and staff from 12 different countries this year. We managed to raise E44 000 to travel and to experience this great kingdom,” said the school’s principal, Giles Sutton. “We have been visiting the country to help the needy and renovate schools around the Lubombo region.”
“We have been preparing meals for school children, painting classrooms and making many friends.”
Mayer said he had a memorable experience last year and was happy to have contributed to greater good, which is why he saw it fit to come back again this year. “I believe true learning happens face to face, which is by learning from and about each other, “he said.
Tanaka also said he was happy to have been proven wrong about the country after watching many documentaries which painted the country in a bad light. “The people here are friendly, and the country is beautiful, it is just sad to see that there’s a lot of poverty and hunger,” he said.
