Africa-Press – Eswatini. The 2025 King’s Cup Pro-Am Tournament concluded on a high note yesterday as the team of Mongi Dlamini, Sandile Chonco, Justice Mashego, Wandile Maduna, and Matthew Dennis emerged victorious with ascore of 188, walking away with a combined prize of E25 000.

The Pro-Am served as a curtain-raiser for the prestigious King’s Cup, giving both amateur and professional golfers a chance to showcase their skill on the lush fairways of the Ezulwini Golf Course.

For many participants, the chance to play alongside professionals was the true highlight of the day. One of the amateurs Wandile Maduna reflected: “Playing alongside a pro in a four-ball match is an incredible experience that goes far beyond just the scorecard. As an amateur, it’s a unique opportunity to observe their remarkable skills up close and absorb valuable lessons throughout the round.”

He explained how much he learned from their composure and decision-making: “You see firsthand how they expertly manage challenging conditions—whether it’s battling the wind on a powerful drive or carefully selecting the perfect club for those tricky, high-pressure shots.”

The young golfer added that the mental side of the game left the biggest impression: “Beyond technique, they reveal the mental game behind golf: how to stay composed after a bad shot, quickly regroup, and keep a positive mindset.”

The prize presentation was graced by Minister of Tinkhundla Administration Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, who represented the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Mkhonta-Simelane. His presence underscored the significance of the tournament not only as a sporting event but also as a platform for tourism promotion and national pride.

In appreciation of the organizers, the amateur praised the effort behind the event: “This initiative stands out as one of the best formats and tournaments in the golfing calendar. The thoughtful planning and seamless execution provide an exceptional experience for all participants, blending competitive spirit with a genuine love for the game.”

With the Pro-Am complete, attention now shifts to the main King’s Cup tournament, which will tee off tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. Professional golfers from across the region are expected to bring fierce competition and thrilling performances as they vie for top honors in one of Eswatini’s most prestigious sporting events.

The Pro-Am winners’ victory sets the stage for what promises to be a weekend filled with world-class golf, community spirit, and international exposure for Eswatini as a rising golf destination.
