Africa-Press – Eswatini. Some Premier League teams have managed to win big in sponsorships in 2023.
Up to four football top-tier clubs were able to lure companies to sponsor them to the tune of E2 450 000 combined, while also striving to form some key partnerships. These clubs are Mbabane Swallows, Moneni Pirates, Ezulwini United and Nsingizini Hotspurs.
However, Nsingizini made the biggest catch, getting a sponsorship worth E1 500 000 from Embiveni Meats. During its unveiling on December 7, the ambitious side also announced a partnership with South African sportswear Primo. Primo has also been said to be close to reaching an agreement with the capital city giants, Swallows.
Meanwhile, United were the second to lure the biggest sponsorship, with its sponsorship totalling E850 000. They unveiled E650 000 sponsorship from Luphohlo Commodities and Umbro. Luphohlo gave ‘Stingers’, as they are nicknamed, E450 000, while Umbro gave them E200 000 worth of playing equipment. Earlier on, while still in the National First Division (NFD), they shocked many when they unveiled a E200 000 sponsorship from Slomoes Corporation.
On another note, Swallows were also a magnet for sponsors. Besides Eclipse Investment, aQuelle Viv jumped into the ‘Birds’ nest with a lucrative E420 000 season-long sports drink and still water. The hydration company, for a start, gives Swallows 1 800 water per month and is worth E35 000 for a month. The partnership was launched in September.
In August, Pirates snatched their E135 000 school bursary sponsorship from DotMedia. The leading billboard company in the country entered into a deal with Pirates that will span for 10 years and will benefit the team’s school-going players. Meanwhile, sponsorship is key for clubs as it eases the financial burden on club bosses, as most teams solely depend on the pockets of their owners. This also helps in the sustainability of clubs, even when they do not win titles.
