Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini cycling Association (ECA) and the cycling community have mourned the untimely death of ECA Treasurer and top female cyclist Shirely Motsa.
According to the Royal Eswatini Police Service Motsa met her death while jogging in the early hours of yesterday morning along Manzana in Mbabane after she was hit by a truck.
She was formally with Newcom Wheels and was also a respected member of the Golden foot Club. Motsa attended the first ECA race being the Road Awareness Safety Ride held at Ezulwini a few weeks ago and her last memorable performance was last year when she managed to finish second during the Treetops 2 Fast 2 Furious.
ECA President Sifiso ‘Zwide’ Ndwandwe released a press statement where they expressed their sadness at the loss of one of their very own.
“Shirley’s vibrant spirit and warm presence brightened every room she entered. Her unassuming nature served as an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of meeting the cyclist. She left an indelible mark on the cycling community young women looked up to her as a beacon of strength and determination journeys. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her husband, Mbusi Motsa, and whom Shirley always prioritised above anything else. We cannot begin magnitude of their loss, but our thoughts and prayers are with them during such difficult times.
“This loss is not only deeply felt within the cycling community, but it reverberates around the entire sporting landscape of the Kingdom of Eswatini. Shirley’s passion for sports, cycling and running will be sorely missed by all.We also extend our condolences to Shirley’s mother, as well as her entire family, NewComm Wheels Cycling Club members, and National Maize Corporation.
May you all find solace in the cherished memories Shirley and the lasting impact she made on the lives of those around her. We also appeal that the family be accorded privacy,” he said.
