Africa-Press – Eswatini. Khumbuzile Mbhamali, a disabled former Elangeni High School pupil is appealing for donations to raise money for University and College application fees after passing her Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE) examinations.

Mbhamali appealed to members of the public to assist her in raising money to apply in the country’s higher learning institutions since her mother who is a factory worker could not afford to foot the bill which is around Two Thousand Rands (R 2000.00).

Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line and workers earn a minimum wage of about One Thousand One Hundred Rands(R1,100.00).University and college application fees cost up to Five Hundred Rands(R500.00).

“I would like to pursue a course in Nursing at the Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU)but I would also like to try my luck in Public Relations and Social Sciences which are offered in other institutions and that will cost me about R 2000 in application fees alone”, she said.

Reached for comments Bongani Makama, the President of the Federation of Organisations of the Disabled in Swaziland (FODSWA) said given the current state of the economy, the disabled were worse off adding that there was a need for urgent intervention.

“We appeal to Government and the Institutions to intervene in this situation or at least allow companies to come help,”he said.
