Africa-Press – Eswatini. Matsapha Correctional Centre Hosts Heartwarming Festive Celebration.
Matsapha Correctional Centre was filled with joy and hope as inmates in the Mavukutfu (Unit D) section were treated to a special Christmas celebration on Tuesday. Organized by His Majesty’s Correctional Services in collaboration with the Methodist Women Prayer and Service Union, the event brought festive cheer to over 100 male inmates.
The celebration featured uplifting worship and entertainment led by renowned local gospel artists, including Thabile Myeni, who served as the Programme Director, Mrs. Dvuba of the Ndawonye Christ Worshipers, Make Simelane and the Calvary, and Amaweseli. The atmosphere was further enriched by inmates themselves, who showcased their talents through poems and songs, creating a sense of unity and encouragement.
A highlight of the event was an inspiring message from Mrs. Dvuba, the leader of the Ndawonye Christ Worshipers. Her heartfelt words emphasized society’s love for the inmates and the importance of valuing the gift of life from God. Her address was met with a resounding round of applause from the audience.
Speaking on behalf of the Officer-in-Charge of Matsapha Correctional Centre, Senior Superintendent Mandla Sibiya urged the inmates to exhibit good behavior both during their time in custody and after their reintegration into society. “Your stay here is temporary,” he reminded them. “Patience and good conduct will pave the way for a brighter future.”
The event concluded with the distribution of gifts from the Methodist Church. Inmates received essential items such as toiletries and food, including meat to be shared during the festive season. The thoughtful gesture was warmly received, further enhancing the spirit of Christmas within the facility.
Senior Superintendent Sibiya expressed gratitude to the Methodist Church for their generous contribution and announced that similar celebrations would be held in other units of the correctional facility, ensuring that all inmates experience the joy of the season.
The event not only spread festive cheer but also reinforced the importance of hope, love, and community in the journey toward rehabilitation and reintegration.
