Africa-Press – Eswatini. The deputy Pprime minister’s Office will from Tuesday start disbursing social grants for the elderly and people with disabilities.
The exercise, which will be the last quarter manual disbursement of social grants, will start in the Lubombo region on Tuesday.
This was announced by the Principal Secretary in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office Makhosini Mndawe through a press statement yesterday.
Disbursement
“The deputy prime minister’s Office, would like to inform the public that the disbursement of social grants will commence in the Lubombo region on March 15-16 and in the Hhohho region on March 17-18,” said Mndawe.
Mndawe further alerted the nation that the disbursement in the Shiselweni region will be done on March 24-28 and Manzini region on March 31- April 1.
“The office would like to continue to warn elderly grant recipients to beware of unscrupulous scammers who may try to swindle them off their grants.
The DPMO does not require anyone to pay for accessing services rendered by the office,” he said.
Meanwhile, a report of the deputy prime minister’s office Portfolio Committee details that the total number of elderly receiving grants is 75 481.
The report further states that through the budget increase by E10 million for persons with disabilities for the ending financial year, this has enabled the office to increase the number of beneficiaries from 5 144 to 9 654.
This was detailed on the ministry’s annual performance report for the 2021-2022 financial year and the budget estimates for the financial year 2022-2023.
Findings of the committee were that pay dates for the elderly grants are not specific, resulting in the committee recommending that monthly payments be done and specific pay dates for the elderly should be fully specified by the DPMO within 30 days after the adoption of the report, which will be in April.
