Africa-Press – Eswatini. COMEDIAN Dr Shakes has bagged another endorsement deal with Castle Lager Eswatini.
The beverages brand has chosen Bonginkhosi Dlamini as one of their brand ambassadors.
The brand announced the comedian’s appointment on Saturday morning alongside former soccer star Mfanafuthi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe.
Castle Lager is a South African pale lager. It is the flagship product of South African Breweries and has been recognised as the National Beer of South Africa, based on the fact that it is 100 per cent grown and produced in the neighbouring country, and for its ability to unite the community behind a common cause. When announcing the star, the brand admitted that his ability to bring people together and entertain has left thousands in stitches and they were happy to announce Dr. Shakes as their brand influencer.
Dr Shakes said this was not his first ambassadorship deal but it was one of the biggest he has had from such a huge brand with so much following.
“Castle lager brings people together and comedy brings people together ‘it all comes together with castle,’ mixing the two is the best thing, beverages and laughter go hand in hand. It is a win for both brands,” he said.
Dlamini said this partnership would benefit both brands.
“For my brand it will help to elevate it to greater heights as we know castle lager is huge across Africa and all over the world,” he said.
The comedian said he was already working on bringing more shows to comedy lovers.
“We have already started giving fun lovers show and last month we hosted a successful comedy picnic and we will be bringing back another episode of Bundle of Jokes. We will be bringing people together,” he added.
Dlamini said the pandemic helped most brands and companies realise the importance of partnering with artists. “COVID-19 helped us in some ways. First it helped artists to be more visible on social media and to get more numbers in terms of following as we know brands work with numbers. Artists started sharing most of their craft on social media and companies can now see and tell what this artist is about,” he said.
The comedian is known mostly for his memes on social media. The meme king has also been featured on SABC 1. He has also been the presenter of TikTok Eswatini together with presenter and personality Mtha Mkhwanazi. Dr Shakes recently hosted his brainchild Bundle of Jokes comedy show, which saw a number of comedy lovers gather at Mega Lounge for a day filled with laughter.
The comedian said his show was the first of many after the pandemic had put a pause on the shows.
It is exciting to see local brands support, endorse and sponsor the art industry. Since the pandemic more and more local companies and brands are recognising the need to work with local artists. Just last week, Sibebe Premium Lager announced two other creatives as their brand ambassadors.
DJ Supa CDQ and media personality King Jayse were both announced by the brand.
Last year Castle Lite ran a competition for local artists to compete in order to become their brand ambassadors. A number of artists joined the competition.
Rappers King Terry and Oxygen were announced as eventual winners and were able to represent the brand for an entire year.
Standard Bank also joined in by choosing a number of brand ambassadors from different industries.
Comedians Slwane, Gogo and Smallz represented the bank alongside many other young people in different industries.
Telecommunications company MTN Eswatini has been known to choose influencers and brand ambassadors for a number of years to date. They have had artists such as Sands, Illa Penboy, Llucid and many others as their brand influencers.
