DR TAMBO GINA CELEBRATES INDOORS AFTER GUNMEN SPOTTED

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Nkilongo Member of Parliament (MP) elect Dr Tambo Gina was forced to celebrate his win in the secondary elections indoors after getting intelligence information that his safety was at risk.

According to information shared by police officers with this reporter after the completion of the counting process at Lubulini High School Polling Station, some voters alleged that two men were spotted alighting from a sedan and one of them was seen putting a gun at the back of his trouser. The two men are said to have been spotted at the polling station. The police officers said they then shared the information with the Nkilongo MP-elect on the basis that the voters who confided to the police had heard one man asking his companion if Gina had arrived at the voting station.

Police

The law enforcers mentioned that they then called for backup and further deployed police officers at the gate of Gina’s home. “Police under Lubulini Police Station were able to act swiftly and relay the information to the former minister. We advised him not to leave the house as there were people spotted with guns outside the polling station. We tried to look for them but it appeared they left after noticing that he was not at the polling station,” said the police officer. When interviewed at his home after winning the elections, Gina confirmed that he was made aware of the matter, hence he had to celebrate his win inside his house for safety purposes.

He said he was informed by the intelligence unit that there were people spotted around, armed with guns, hence his safety was at risk. The former Minister of Economic Planning and Development also expressed his dejection about not joining the jubilant voters in celebrating his win. The counting of the votes for the MP position at the polling station ended at around 3:30am on Saturday. “It is so painful that I was unable to join my supporters to celebrate their efforts of voting for me in numbers. I was informed by the intelligence unit that I have to stay indoors for my safety after some people were spotted with guns roaming and asking questions outside the polling station,” he said.

Power

Gina further thanked people of Lubulini for entrusting him with the power to again represent them in Parliament. He also acknowledged government for playing a key role in service delivery in communities across the country. The former minister also hailed the LUSIP III agricultural projects that had changed the livelihoods of people under his constituency. He also said the newly-built factory shells that were operational under his inkhundla had also been a milestone as they created job opportunities for the youth and also addressed the plight of the escalating unemployment rate in the country. Adding, Gina said he advised his campaign managers to tell his supporters that celebration should be done in broad day light due to security reasons.
