Africa-Press – Eswatini. Former Moroka Swallows player Pentjie Zulu is reportedly training with Mbabane Swallows, with the hope of signing for the club.

The former Bidvest Wits player, who is valued at E2.5 million by renowned international football site, Transfermarkt, was last contracted to DStv Premiership side Moroka Swallows, where he made 17 appearances in all competitions, before being released last year. Latest developments regarding the South Africa-born player suggested that he participated in a training session with Umkhonto KaShaka yesterday, under the guidance of Head Coach Caleb Ngwenya.

According to a source within the club, Zulu was being considered for the left-back position, which is currently occupied by Siphosethu Mabilisa and Kwakhe ‘Stopper’ Thwala, who has also been utilised as a defensive midfielder in recent games. The source emphasised that Zulu’s potential addition to the team would increase competition in the left-back position, potentially leading to improved performances from all players involved.

“The player in question arrived this week and began training with the team the day before. It is still unclear whether he will be officially signed by the team, but his skills and experience are certainly impressive,” the source said. In addition to Zulu, it has been reported that Lozitha Spurs’ Kwanele ‘Rasta’ Shongwe is also currently training with the capital city giants. Shongwe was recently part of the team that faced Swallows last week Sunday, during the Ingwenyama Cup last 32 game, where they were defeated 3-0 at the Somhlolo National Stadium.

When the team Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya was questioned about the status of the two players, he stated that he was not present at the morning training sessions and therefore was unable to provide any updates. Meanwhile, Zulu got his breakthrough in professional football at Jomo Cosmos, where he was a key player in the 2014-15 season, helping the team secure promotion to the first tier. He made his debut in the South African Premier Division in the 2015-16 season. After a brief stint with Bidvest Wits in 2016-17, Zulu joined Chippa United, but his contract expired at the end of the season.

After drifting between clubs, Zulu found stability at Black Leopards, where he was the most-used player in the 2019-20 season. However, he left the club for personal reasons in February 2021 and trained independently for two months before joining Sekhukhune United in April. Zulu’s contract with Sekhukhune United expired in March 2022, and he subsequently signed a short-term contract with Moroka Swallows. The contract was extended for the 2022-23 season, but he was later released.
