Africa-Press – Eswatini. Fierce competition.

That could best describes yesterday’s mass auction in Matsapha. Instructed by Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), the established Eswatini Auctioneers sold impounded goods. They went under the hammer at the ERS State Warehouse situated at Plot 502 opposite Macsteel Eswatini in Matsapha. It was a different auction as it brought hawkers, retailers and wholesalers, among others, under one roof. The main attraction was a lot of mixed designer clothes and shoes that were offloaded from a container. From a reserve price of E150 000, the winning bid was an unbelievable E1.3 million. Loud cheers filled the room, as the about 100 bidders congratulated the eventual winner.

While bags of used shoes proved to be a favourite, as they were sold for up to E17 000 for 20 bags; other items equally generated a huge interest. The second highest was a container of Activia clear bulbs that were sold for E241 000 from a reserve price of E50 000.

Clothing

In terms of clothing and accessories, bidders choose from new designer t-shirts, handbags (Burberry and Polo), waist belts, jeans, purses, over 235 bales of winter boots, designer shoes and sandals, among other things. Companies and entrepreneurs also picked from office desks, executive 10-seater boardroom table, reception desk cabinets, KIC fridge and a Canon IR 2018! photocopying machine. The boardroom table was sold for E11 000 from a reserve price of E2 000. For those running spares dealerships, they were equally spoilt for choice. On the ‘menu’ were brand new tyres (205/70 R15, 195 R15), windscreens, brakes, clutch kits, filters, fan belts, car body parts , shock absorbers, lights and suspension parts. Over E2 million was made from the auction, but the actual figure could not be immediately ascertained as calculations were still underway at the time of compiling this report.
