Africa-Press – Eswatini. A brighter future for scientific research in Eswatini is on the horizon.
The Eswatini Sugar Association (ESA) has taken a giant leap in supporting local innovation and academic excellence by launching a E1.5 million endowment fund in partnership with the University of eswatini (UNESWA). This transformative initiative is set to enhance the university’s research capabilities and provide valuable resources for both students and faculty.
The endowment fund will go towards the procurement of an Automatic Weather Station and a Real-Time PCR Machine, two essential pieces of equipment that will bolster climate and agricultural research, as well as medical diagnostics. In addition to the equipment purchase, the fund will also cover maintenance costs for the next seven years, ensuring long-term sustainability and uninterrupted research.
Speaking at the launch event, ESA representatives expressed pride in contributing to national development through education and research. “This partnership is an investment in the future of Eswatini. By empowering our local university, we are strengthening the foundation for innovation, food security, and scientific progress,” said an ESA official.
UNESWA’s leadership warmly welcomed the support, calling it a milestone in the institution’s journey to becoming a leading research hub in the region. The equipment will benefit a range of academic fields, from agriculture and climate science to molecular biology.
This initiative not only highlights ESA’s commitment to corporate social responsibility but also sets a shining example of how public-private partnerships can accelerate national development.
