Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Kingdom of Eswatini and the Kingdom of Morocco have opened a new chapter of collaboration, marking the inaugural session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation in Rabat on October 29, 2025.
The milestone event was co-chaired by Her Excellency Pholile Shakantu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Eswatini, and His Excellency Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates of Morocco. The gathering solidified nearly three decades of friendship that began with the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1996 and gained momentum when Eswatini opened its mission in Rabat in 2020.
A Roadmap for Shared Growth
The two nations signed a comprehensive 2026–2028 Roadmap for Cooperation, charting an ambitious course for partnership in education, technical training, economic development, diplomacy, and international funding. The roadmap aims to advance shared prosperity through tangible projects that empower people, businesses, and institutions in both kingdoms.
Among the key agreements signed were:
• Visa Waiver for Diplomatic and Service Passports: This will ease official travel and reinforce smooth government-to-government cooperation.
• Diplomatic Training Exchange: Eswatini’s young diplomats will train in Morocco, including language immersion in French and Arabic, strengthening their global engagement skills.
• Justice Cooperation: A partnership between the Ministries of Justice will enhance legal frameworks and promote access to justice for all citizens.
• Youth and Sports Development: Minister Shakantu invited Morocco to help nurture Eswatini’s football talent, applauding Morocco’s impressive Under-20 World Cup performance and encouraging collaboration in sports development.
• Tourism Partnership: Both nations committed to training tourism professionals to unlock the sector’s vast potential for economic transformation.
Empowering Eswatini’s Future
Under the new cooperation framework, Morocco pledged to sponsor study programs and learning tours for Emaswati in diverse sectors. The initiative will also support resource mobilization for infrastructure and strategic projects, signaling a practical commitment to Eswatini’s national development agenda.
In a show of confidence in Eswatini’s growing economic potential, Morocco announced plans to host an “Eswatini Economic Week” in Rabat in 2026, showcasing Eswatini’s investment opportunities to Moroccan enterprises and strengthening commercial ties.
A Vision Rooted in Solidarity
Both governments emphasized that this renewed partnership is not merely diplomatic but deeply people-centered, focused on youth empowerment, education, and sustainable progress.
The two countries are also preparing to sign future Memoranda of Understanding in scholarships, culture, and agriculture, expanding the breadth of cooperation in ways that promise lasting benefits for citizens on both sides.
As Minister Shakantu expressed, the spirit of collaboration between Eswatini and Morocco reflects Africa’s rising potential, where nations unite to share knowledge, open doors of opportunity, and build a continent anchored in peace, progress, and partnership.
