Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini Athletes Commission, under the leadership of Chairperson Sibusiso Matsenjwa, is proudly representing the Kingdom in the Southern Africa Athletes Commission Exchange Programme, hosted by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) from 21–23 September 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Flying the national flag at this prestigious gathering are Phumlile Ndzinisa (Athletics), Simanga Dlamini (Swimming), Muzi Shabangu (Cycling), and Thabiso Dlamini (Boxing). These athletes, drawn from different sporting codes, showcase the diversity of Eswatini’s sporting talent and highlight the nation’s commitment to empowering athletes across disciplines.

The three-day programme has convened 40 athletes and commission representatives from Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa. Its central goal is to foster knowledge exchange, strengthen collaboration among regional athlete bodies, and ensure that athletes’ voices remain central in shaping the sporting landscape of Southern Africa.

According to Mkhulisi Dlamini, the Communications Officer of the Eswatini Athletes Commission, the exchange is both timely and strategic:

“We are excited that our Athletes Commission had the chance to be part of this regional exchange. It’s a great opportunity for them to learn, share experiences, and build networks with fellow athletes. We believe the knowledge they bring back will be valuable in encouraging and supporting the athlete community in Eswatini.”

The programme has been carefully designed to empower participants both on and off the field. Key sessions include the Athletes 365 Workshop, focusing on leadership and athlete representation; Financial Literacy and Planning, aimed at equipping athletes with tools for financial independence and sustainability; and Career Transition Strategies, which address life after competitive sport and help athletes prepare for future opportunities.

This exchange marks a milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Eswatini Athletes Commission to strengthen its role as a platform for athlete advocacy. By engaging in dialogue with peers from neighboring countries, Eswatini’s athletes not only broaden their horizons but also contribute to building a stronger and more united Southern African sporting community.
