Africa-Press – Eswatini. Banking on talent 20 years later!
It was a celebration of music, milestones, and money on Wednesday as Eswatini Bank unveiled a massive E700 000 sponsorship for the 20th edition of the Eswatini Bank School Music Competition. Held at the stylish Happy Valley Hotel, the grand launch struck a high note with students, teachers, and music lovers all turning up to kick off the 2025 season.
The annual competition, which began in 2005, has become one of Eswatini’s most beloved platforms for showcasing young musical talent—and this year’s edition is turning up the volume in a big way. Speaking at the event, Eswatini Bank Managing Director (MD) Dr. Nozizwe Mulela took a moment to reflect on how far the competition has come. “From its humble beginnings to the platform it has become today, this journey has been nothing short of extraordinary,” she said.
Dr. Mulela praised the dedication of everyone involved over the past two decades, adding that it takes more than funding to keep a project alive this long—it takes passion, trust, and shared purpose. “Sustaining a project for two decades requires deep commitment and relationships built on mutual respect,” she said.
The competition has not only become a stage for rising stars in choral music but also a place where students learn teamwork, discipline, and cultural pride.
Chairperson of the Schools Choral Music Association, Sithembiso Dlamini, gave a heartfelt thank you to Eswatini Bank for its unwavering support. “It is with immense gratitude and joy that we gather here today to celebrate not only the talent of our young choristers but also the generosity of an institution that believes in the power of music,” he said.
Dlamini also revealed that this year all schools will get a chance to participate in the finals to mark the 20th anniversary celebration. Dlamini also shared that there will also be a magazine to mark the milestone of choral music in for the two decades.
Ministry of Education representative Nhlanhla Dlamini also thanked the bank’s commitment and consistency in supporting choral music in the kingdom.
In true fashion of a choral launch the Nazareth High School rendered a song to mark the end of the festivities of the launch.
With E700 000 backing this year’s edition, expectations are sky-high for what promises to be the most exciting competition yet.
