Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III says the United Nations sustainable development co-operation framework for the period 2021-2025 stipulates the country’s commitment.

This commitment, the King said, was to ‘a prosperous, just, and resilient Eswatini where no one is left behind’. The King was speaking through the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Prince Simelane, who represented him in the 78th anniversary of the UN at Mhubhe High School at Ngculwini yesterday. His Majesty said the observance of the 78th anniversary provided a unique opportunity for emaSwati to understand the role and mandates of the UN agencies working in the kingdom. This, he said, also provided an opportunity to help the UN directly engage with the various people in constituencies and accordingly appreciate their needs in the process.

The King said: “As we celebrate this milestone, we recall very well that not so long ago, when I addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September this year, we acknowledged the fact that for 78 years, the United Nations has stood for the great ideal of building an international system of collaboration, solidarity, and common purpose.” He said while people were aware that the many challenges faced by member states had derailed them in their pursuit of the SDG’s agenda 2030 and the African Union aspiration 2063, member States remain steadfast that they shall triumph with the guidance and leadership of their global organisation. We have noted the contribution of the United Nations through many strategic documents, including the current United Nations sustainable development cooperation framework for the period 2021-2025.”The King said Eswatini remained confident that such cooperation would go a long way in transforming the lives of emaSwati and promoting the realisation of a prosperous nation while protecting the planet and leaving no one behind.

He also acknowledged the support of the UN in responding to the call for the eradication of poverty and addressing the issues of youth unemployment in the country.
