Eswatini Delegation Engages in Strategic IFMIS in Rwanda

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini has stepped up efforts to strengthen its public finance management systems, with a high-level delegation led by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Vusie Dlamini, currently in Kigali, Rwanda.

The team, which includes members of the Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS) Steering Committee, is taking part in a series of strategic engagements with Rwanda’s Ministry of Economic Planning and Finance and other key stakeholders. The discussions centre on sharing experiences and deepening cooperation in public finance management and procurement, two areas critical to strengthening accountability and efficiency in government operations.

The visit builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Eswatini and Rwanda in 2023. The agreement paved the way for collaboration in knowledge sharing and technical assistance, particularly in areas where Rwanda has made significant progress. Rwanda is widely recognised for its successful implementation of digital finance reforms, making it an ideal partner for Eswatini as the kingdom works to modernise its financial management systems.

Speaking ahead of the engagements, PS Dlamini emphasised the importance of learning from Rwanda’s journey in rolling out IFMIS and other digital governance reforms. “This visit is an opportunity for us to draw lessons, strengthen collaboration, and ensure that Eswatini’s financial systems are more transparent, efficient, and aligned with international best practice,” he said.

The IFMIS project is one of the government’s flagship reforms, designed to improve the planning, execution, and monitoring of public expenditure. Once fully implemented, it will allow Eswatini to manage its finances in real time, reduce leakages, and enhance service delivery.

The engagements in Kigali are expected to cover areas such as system design, capacity development, procurement reforms, and change management, ensuring that Eswatini benefits not just from technology transfer but also from Rwanda’s institutional experiences.

This mission is a clear signal of the government’s determination to modernise its financial systems, build stronger partnerships in Africa, and position Eswatini on a path of sustainable fiscal discipline.
