Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini has taken a monumental step towards achieving food security and sustainable rural development. Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla has returned home after leading the Kingdom’s delegation at the historic II Brazil-Africa Dialogue on Food Security, Fight Against Hunger, and Rural Development.

Commissioned by His Majesty King Mswati III, the DPM’s presence at the event underlined Eswatini’s commitment to global collaboration and South-South Cooperation. The Dialogue, hosted by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, united African countries with Brazilian stakeholders to address pressing issues of hunger eradication, agricultural innovation, and sustainable rural practices.

A significant highlight of the Dialogue was Eswatini’s formal accession to the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, a move that will unlock critical technical expertise, funding opportunities, and knowledge-sharing platforms. The ceremony saw Honourable Dladla presenting Eswatini’s dedication to Brazil’s First Lady, Rosângela Lula da Silva, bolstering the Kingdom’s national priorities in food security, aquaculture, and inclusive development.

During the four-day event, Eswatini’s delegation, joined by Mandla Tshawuka, Minister of Agriculture, engaged in high-level discussions and site visits to leading agricultural research centers. The delegation explored sustainable farming practices, climate-resilient technologies, and strategies to empower small-scale farmers, particularly women and youth.

The Final Declaration from the Dialogue, endorsed by all participants, places Eswatini firmly on the global stage of agricultural leadership. It commits to collaborative action in addressing climate change, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting inclusive agricultural policies.

Eswatini’s presence has also opened new doors for partnerships, including technical collaborations with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), funding support from the African Development Bank and IFAD, and knowledge exchanges to propel local development initiatives.

Dladla has reaffirmed Eswatini’s intention to leverage these partnerships and outlined plans to establish a task force that will coordinate follow-ups and finalize key Memoranda of Understanding by mid-2026. These efforts are designed to transform Eswatini’s agricultural landscape and position the Kingdom as a regional leader in sustainable aquaculture and rural development by 2030.

This positive engagement marks a bright chapter for Eswatini’s journey towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and underscores the nation’s dedication to securing a prosperous, food-secure future for all.
