Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini has officially been entrusted with hosting the 2027 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Sustainable Energy Week, marking a proud and strategic milestone for the country and the region at large.
The baton was formally handed over by Zimbabwe’s Vice President, General (Rtd) Honourable Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, to Eswatini’s Minister for Natural Resources and Energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, during the official opening ceremony of the 2026 SADC Sustainable Energy Week in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Held under the theme “Driving Regional Economic Growth Through Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency,” the high-level gathering brought together government leaders, policymakers, investors, development partners, and energy experts from across the region to accelerate collaboration in sustainable power solutions.
A Vote of Confidence in Eswatini
The handover signals strong regional confidence in Eswatini’s growing leadership in the energy sector. As the incoming host, the Kingdom is expected to steer critical discussions on renewable energy, energy efficiency, regional power integration, and innovative financing mechanisms that can unlock economic growth across Southern Africa.
Receiving the baton, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives and strengthening partnerships that support industrialisation, job creation, and climate resilience.
The event also reflects Eswatini’s broader development vision to position itself as a competitive and forward-looking economy, driven by sustainable infrastructure and strategic regional cooperation.
Advancing the Regional Energy Agenda
The SADC Sustainable Energy Week serves as a key platform for showcasing renewable energy projects, promoting cross-border energy trade, strengthening public-private partnerships, and mobilising investment into clean energy infrastructure.
With energy security and climate action now central to economic transformation, the 2027 edition in Eswatini is expected to attract increased investor interest and amplify regional collaboration.
Hosting the 2027 SADC Sustainable Energy Week presents a significant opportunity for Eswatini to highlight its renewable energy potential, attract foreign direct investment, promote innovation and youth participation in the energy sector, and strengthen its position within regional energy frameworks.
The baton handover in Victoria Falls was more than ceremonial — it symbolised continuity, unity, and a shared commitment among SADC member states to power the region’s future through clean, reliable, and inclusive energy solutions.
