Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Kingdom of Eswatini is tuning up to welcome a wave of youthful energy and world-class music at the third annual Africa Youth Orchestra Festival (AYOF 2025), set to take place from October 9–11, 2025 at the TLC Events Centre (The Luke Commission).
Organized by the Africa Ntjilo Institute of Empowerment Music and Art, the three-day festival promises more than just performances. It aims to unite young people, teachers, and communities in a shared celebration of culture, education, and empowerment through music.
The program is packed with activities designed to inspire and engage both participants and the public:
Day 1 (Thursday, Oct. 9): The Opening Celebration
Festivities begin with a colorful opening ceremony and a “Think Tank” session, followed by street performances, traditional Swazi dances, and a Taekwondo showcase. The highlight of the day will be the Opening Concert.
Day 2 (Friday, Oct. 10): Education & Collaboration
The second day will focus on master classes, workshops, and music education presentations from schools. The evening culminates in the Musical Gala Concert, a dazzling showcase of young talents alongside international guest performers.
Day 3 (Saturday, Oct. 11): The Grand Finale
The festival concludes with an awards ceremony, mini-concert, and the much-anticipated Finale Concert, where all participating musicians will perform together in a powerful orchestral production.
AYOF 2025 is rooted in music education and professional development, offering interactive sessions for both teachers and students.
For Teachers: Presentations will explore music history, orchestral instruments, and practical learning through a unique tin whistle workshop.
For Students: Activities include an Interactive Music Session, instrument introductions, and a rhythm circle for hands-on learning.
Packages are available at E200 for students and E400 for teachers, inclusive of lunch and a concert ticket.
Mongezi Simelane, Head of the Mbabane Chamber Orchestra, emphasized the festival’s broader mission:
“AYOF is not just about concerts; it’s about building bridges across cultures and giving our young musicians a chance to see what is possible. For Eswatini, hosting this festival means inspiring the next generation to dream bigger and play louder on the global stage.”
Tickets can be purchased at Alliance Française (Mbabane) and Mugg & Bean (The Gables).
