Africa-Press – Eswatini. The clock is ticking and anticipation is rising as young chess prodigies from across the Kingdom prepare to converge on Matsapha for the Eswatini Junior Chess Championship 2025, scheduled for August 23 at EIMPA.

More than just a tournament, this event is a proving ground for Eswatini’s next generation of strategic thinkers. Played in a 5-round Swiss format with 60 minutes per player, each move will matter as players go head-to-head in a full-day showdown of brains, focus, and endurance.

From rising stars in the U10 category to seasoned young tacticians in the U20 division, the championship promises intense matchups across boys’ and girls’ sections. Trophies and medals await the top three finishers in every age group, but every participant will walk away with a certificate a token of growth in a sport that rewards discipline and mental agility.

What makes this year’s edition even more special? The U20 category doubles as a selection event for the prestigious African Junior Chess Championship (AJCC) a chance for Eswatini’s top young players to step onto the continental stage.

Age eligibility will be tightly monitored, with the U20 reserved for players born on or after 1 January 2005, and U10 for those born on or after 1 January 2015. Tournament integrity will be paramount: no electronic devices allowed, no spectators permitted, and a 30-minute default time rule will be strictly enforced. An appeals committee led by the Chief Arbiter will be on hand to resolve any disputes swiftly.

With strategy boards ready, minds sharpened, and dreams of national glory alive, the 2025 Junior Chess Championship is not just about winning — it’s about building the future of Eswatini chess.
