Africa-Press – Eswatini. There is no place like home.
This adage holds true for former Baroka Eswatini-born Head Coach Milton Dlamini. The latter has re-joined Denver Sundowns as their new coach. Dlamini takes over from former coach Gcina Dlamini, who left the club on medical grounds towards the end of the previous season. Gcina, who had signed a three-year contract with the Manzini-based outfit early this year, parted ways with them after less than a year. He had previously coached Seven Dreams, a team from Mahlanya. Sundowns announced the reunion between the parties for the 2023/24 season on their Facebook page. He was officially introduced to the players and started drilling the team on Saturday. Milton has honed his coaching skills in South Africa (SA) over the years. Besides Baroka United, Milton has also coached teams such as the defunct Thanda Royal Zulu, Platinum Stars, Free States Stars and Mbombela United, among others.

He also had a brief stint in 2021 with Manzini Wanderers, where he assisted in the technical bench, while he was also part of Mbabane Highlanders technical team in 1997. He was once in charge of the yellow and white Manzini-based side in 2013. Meanwhile, Sundowns Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elvis Dube confirmed their re-union with Milton and expressed their delight over getting the new coach. Dube said his experience and familiarity with their culture among other things were some of the attributes that made him an ideal candidate for the hot seat. “We are happy to have him back home and finally fill the gap left by Gcina. The players were also anxious about returning to preseason without a coach. We believe he will help the team achieve the goals that he was made aware of and we were impressed by the warm reception he got from the players,” Dube said. He is to be assisted by Percy Shongwe, who took care of the team for the last four games of last season after Gcina’s departure. Dube mentioned that they were still searching for individuals who will soon fill the roles of the physical trainer and goalkeeper coach. The new coach will kick off his campaign with the side in the Bible Society Mayoral Cup, a one-day tournament featuring four teams scheduled for August 5 at Mavuso Sports Centre.
