Africa-Press – Eswatini. Senator Lizzie Nkosi, the former Minister of Health who allegedly colluded with SwaziPharm Director Kareem Ashraff to collapse the health system, resulting in the death of hundreds of emaSwati now wants citizens working in Ireland and other countries to pay tax and sustain the current ruling, collapsing and undemocratic Tinkhundla Government.
Speaking in Parliament this week, the Senator said there were countries which ensured that, their citizens pay tax back into their home country even if they worked abroad, she mentioned Philippines as one of those countries.
“I would make an example about Philippines, citizens of that country pay tax while working abroad,” she said.
The Senator made the submissions after Public Service Minister Mabulala Maseko told Parliament that, civil servants were resigning in large numbers after securing employment abroad.
Responding to the Senator, the Public Service Minister assured Parliament that, Government will consider introducing laws that will force emaSwati working abroad to pay tax.
“But this process of introducing the law will require the support of other Ministries such as the Ministry of Labour and Social Security,” he said.
On other note, the current ruling Tinkhundla undemocratic Government collapsed the health and education systems and further refused to increase salaries for civil servants.
Workers in the private sector are paid ‘peanuts’ subsequent to Government Gazettes empowering employers to underpay employees.
But in an effort to mitigate poverty, some emaSwati migrated to other countries and the Government is now ‘hot on their heels’, seeking to demand tax to sustain King Mswati, the royal family and those in power.
Eswatini is not democratic but an absolute Monarchy, Parliament is used to pass legislation protecting the interests of those in power while oppressing the poor and vulnerable.
