Africa-Press – Eswatini. A second spell in Eswatini looms for former Orlando Pirates star midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni.

The South African graced local football not long ago, as he spent nearly a season with Mbabane Highlanders in 2021/22. He left during the second window to join Chippa United for a second spell but is now out of the team. “We’ve had contact with Sangweni, and he wants to return to Highlanders. He was very helpful last time we had him and with the talent and experience of Bereng gone, you have Sangweni and then ‘Pupu’ on top of Philani and Tfomo in the middle we are okay,” Highlanders’ South Africa-based Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe responded when questioned on the latest speculation linking his team with Sangweni. It was exclusively reported by our weekly publication, the Times Sunday, over the weekend that Mbabane Swallows’ want-away midfielder Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze was in talks with the black and white capital city ensemble. Sources close to the player confirmed Highlanders made a mega offer to sign him.

And if he does sign, Pupu stands to be the highest paid in the land. Pupu also confirmed the news and made it no secret that he wanted a fresh challenge outside Swallows, where he has played for most of his career. However, the former Polokwane City and Mbombela United player had a fall-out with current coach, Caleb Ngwenya, who gave him limited game time with the supporters having to demand it. Kgomongwe said chances of Sangweni reuniting with his former Highlanders teammates were high while they had their eyes on ‘Pupu’. The latter has about a year left in his Swallows contract. Meanwhile, Highlanders have lost their Lesotho international Tshwarelo Bereng to SA’s National First Division rookies Orbit College and further released talented winger Tony ‘Ben 10’ Machacha, who is now training with their traditional rivals, Swallows.
