Africa-Press – Eswatini. Jabulani Bhembe, the Lobamba Inkhundla Indvuna has revealed that the copper theft suspect was shot nine(9) times, subsequently, he fell and allegedly drowned into the Mbabane river.

The suspect identified as Broodwin was allegedly killed by the police on Friday morning after being found in possession of copper.

For the past months, eSwatini police officers have been sentencing suspects to death for stealing copper by shooting them.

Bhembe who has been vocal in demanding answers from the police regarding the shooting of the suspect, urged the cops to continue searching for the body of the suspect within the river.

“The police killed the young man, they are now denying that they killed him yet nine(9)shots were directed at him before he collapsed into the river”, said the Indvuna yeNkhundla.

Meanwhile, the youth at Ezulwini is planning a protest march to the Lobamba Police Station in demand for answers regarding the death of the suspect.

Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Reached for comments earlier, Human Rights Lawyer Thulani Maseko said eSwatini had become a lawless State adding that police had no right to kill suspects.

“It is not only the police that do not respect human rights particularly the right to human dignity and life but the government itself does not respect its own laws. So if the organs of the State do not respect the law, then the country becomes a lawless State.Police have no right to kill suspects and deprive them their right to life”, said the Human Rights Lawyer.
