Africa-Press – Eswatini. Ezulwini Municipality seeks to develop a new town planning scheme that encompasses the changes that have happened in the town, as well as develop a developmental direction for the town.

In order to execute this task, the council has invited sealed proposals from reputable consultancy firms for the preparation of the Ezulwini Town Planning Scheme. The Ezulwini Town Planning Scheme is a legal document that applies within the jurisdiction of Ezulwini Municipality. This current year is the fifth of its 10-year period. Therefore, the scheme lapses in the year 2028. Section 21 (4) of the Town Planning Act, 1961, permits for a review at five-year intervals. The Ezulwini municipal area is renowned as the tourism and recreation hub of Eswatini.

Over the last five years however, the town has evolved to be the preferred location for headquarters of organisation as well as township developments, therefore, the legislative background needs to be reviewed to accommodate these developments. The municipality seeks to provide a regulative, while accommodative environment for current and future development trends.

The objective of the preparation of the Ezulwini Town Planning Scheme tender is to ensure that it is aligned with the strategic objectives and overall vision of the town which is “To be a high quality residential, corporate, tourist -friendly and green destination.”

It is also to develop a baseline survey of the town. Furthermore, a town planning scheme aims to regulate development to ensure the harmonious development of the built environment.

However, the current Ezulwini scheme is unable to do that adequately. The scheme is one important planning and development document at local level, which encourages full participation of the public or affected community at various stages of the revision of the scheme.
