Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Mangwanane community in the Mankayane area has officially received newly constructed flushable toilets, delivered as part of a sanitation improvement initiative by the local Town Board.
The handover was officiated by the Board Chairperson, Councillor B.E. Dlamini, who highlighted that the toilets are part of a broader community development plan.
According to Dlamini, the Board seeks to enhance the standard of living for residents by implementing projects that address essential needs such as sanitation, hygiene, and infrastructure.
“This project is one of several intended to support a healthier and more dignified environment for the people of Mangwanane,” he said. “The Board will continue working closely with the community to create a sense of pride and belonging, particularly for children growing up in this area,” he added.
Councillor Dlamini also emphasized the importance of maintaining the new facilities. He stated that the community’s ability to care for such infrastructure would be an indicator of its readiness for future developmental projects.
In addition to the sanitation facilities, the councillors distributed disposable sanitary pads to teenage girls as part of a menstrual hygiene campaign. This initiative is aimed at promoting health and reducing school absenteeism among adolescent girls.
A community member of Mangwanane, Sipho Maziya, expressed appreciation for the development. “We welcome this improvement. It addresses a basic need and shows progress,” he said.
The event was attended by community leaders, residents, and youth representatives. The new infrastructure is expected to improve public health outcomes and contribute to the overall well-being of the Mangwa nane community.
Further developments under the Board’s strategic plan are expected to be rolled out in phases, based on community engagement and the successful maintenance of current projects.
