Africa-Press – Eswatini. CORRECTIONAL Services side, Green Mamba President LaMakhosini Dlamini has encouraged the team to make the country proud.

The Ernest Mavuso led troops left the country yesterday for Mozambique, where they will play against UD Songo in the CAF Champions League match. The first leg match will be played at Estadio Zimpeto in Maputo on Sunday, starting at 3pm.

Dlamini was represented by Board of Governor Deputy Commissioner General, Vusi Kunene during the farewell function held at Lobamba Technical Centre yesterday. Kunene urged the team to represent the country well. “We are not going there as Green Mamba but we are carrying the country’s flag. We need to do this with dignity. The boys know exactly what is expected from them. We know their capabilities and they will make us proud. We wish the team the best of luck.” Kunene further thanked all the stakeholders who came through to support them for their trip.

He encouraged other sponsors to come on board. “Competing in the CAF games is not a joke. There are a lot of costs incurred and we greatly thank those who came through for the team. The team has promised to come back with positive results.” Green Mamba Ernest Mavuso said it would not be easy but they were ready for the match. “Firstly, I would like to appreciate the team’s president for the support. We would not have it easy without her backing. Coming into the match, we have prepared well and the boys are ready to fight inside the field of play.” He said the return of their former captain, Mxolisi ‘Kudus’ Mkhonto would give them more options. “Our opponents are a closed book to us but we are ready for then,” Mavuso said.

…‘Mazza’ New Green Mamba captain

SOCCER – LONG-serving and crafty midfielder Njabulo ‘Mazza’ Tfwala has been appointed as new Green Mamba coach.

This was revealed during the team’s official send-of ahead of their CAF Champions League clash on Sunday. The Piggs Peak-born star is filling the void left by Royal AM hopeful, Mxolisi ‘Kudus’ Mkhonto, who is on the verge of joining the Kwazulu Natal ambitious side. Mkhonto recently joined the rest of the team for their CAF assignment. He will also play the second leg before going back to South Africa.

Tfwala said as the club, they were ready for their match.

“We are aware that this was one of most difficult tasks but we will be all out for a win.”

He further appreciated the support they were receiving form the team’s management and other stakeholders. “One would appreciate the team bosses for entrusting me with such a critical position in the club. I can only promise to keep working hard with my teammates. We are grateful to all those who are supporting us as a team. I am the new captain and would like to repay the trust by winning in Mozambique,” Tfwala said.

…Ernest national team quality – Horton

SOCCER – ESWATINI Football Association (EFA) vice- President, Steve Horton says Green Mamba head coach, Ernest Mavuso is good enough to lead the different national team squads.

Horton shared these sentiments when making his remarks on behalf of EFA President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane during the farewell function yesterday.

Horton said he was certain that the former Mbabane Highlanders gaffer had all the qualities that qualified him to lead the nation’s pride.

“He can do well in all the squads, not necessarily the senior national team.”

He said mavuso’s work and recent achievements were evident enough that he was an exceptional coach.

“He has proven to me one of the best. He is doing a tremendous job behind the scenes. We would be happy to have him in the different national team set ups again,” he said. The soft spoken football administrator further urged the correctional services side to go out there and hoist the country’s flag. “We know they are capable of getting positive results. It is no longer about Green Mamba but they are now representing the country. We will continue to support the team where possible. We wish you the best of luck as you go to Mozambique,” Horton added.

Ernest Mavuso politely asked not to comment much on the matter but only said he took it as a complement and motivation to achieve more in his career.
