Africa-Press – Eswatini. The ministry of finance has through the import permit committee issued 102 import permits.

This has seen the value of imported goods reaching E272 million in the first quarter for the 2022/23 financial year.

According to the report, the import permit committee, which comprises members from Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), ministry of commerce, industry and trade, Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) and the ministry of finance (chairperson and secretary), was tasked with the issuance of import permits for goods listed under Legal Notice No. 60 of 2000, and imported into Eswatini from countries outside the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) region.

“The committee meets weekly to consider applications for import permits. During the quarter under review, the ministry received 102 import permit applications, whereby 54 import permits were issued to individuals and 48 to companies.

No import permits were rejected. The total value of goods imported was E272 million,” the report reads.
