Africa-Press – Eswatini. Black and white capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders are in South Africa to play a series of friendlies ahead of the new 2023/24 season.

According to impeccable sources with the ‘Bull’s kraal, the Solomon ‘Solly’ Luvhengo-coached side has been invited to a tournament that will feature, DStv Premiership club Polokwane City and two other teams yet to be confirmed. “Yes the team has left this morning for South Africa (SA) to prepare for the coming season which promises to be very tough. We want to use the tournament to see how far the squad is in terms of fitness level and be able to identify areas where the coach must beef up his squad,” the source said. The source went on to reveal that Inkunz’emnyama left with Moneni Pirates striker Sibonelo ‘Jekwa’ Simelane and former Royal Leopard defender Thami Zulu who are reportedly on the verge of joining the club.

“We will be traveling with all the players who are currently training with the club and we will be able to see if they are able to bond with the other players,” the source shared. The Mbabane giants Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kenneth Dlamini, said it was true that the team had left to play in a preseason tournament in SA. The former Highlanders National Supporters Committee (NSC) chairperson also confirmed that they would play against Polokwane City and two yet to be revealed SA clubs.

Meanwhile, Highlanders is not the only club that will be involved in international friendly games, their traditional rivals, Mbabane Swallows, are also currently in Ulundi. Umkhonto KaShaka left yesterday morning for the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup billed for the Prince Mangosuthu Stadium today. The soccer festival will see four clubs and a social game pitting Kaizer Chiefs legends and Tshinja Social team made up of elite players and musicians from the Zululand, battling for trophies.The four clubs are KwaZulu-Natal-based DStv Premiership sides in defending champions Amazulu, Richards Bay and Royal AM, with Eswatini envoys Swallows completing this year’s line-up.
