Africa-Press – Eswatini. Tourism Chief Executive Officer Linda Nxumalo has lauded Eswatini event promoters for hosting several shows during the Umhlanga weekend.
The tourism CEO gave an exclusive interview to this publication last Saturday at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre tourism stand, which was set up in Pavilion 2 during the Eswatini International Trade Fair (EITF). Umhlanga’s main day was on Monday, September 4. The EITF wrapped up on Sunday and was officially opened by His Majesty King Mswati III last weekend. For the opening ceremony, South African artists Master KG and Lwah Ndlunkulu were headliners. Other artists who performed include Roxkeyz, TUS, Last Born, DD Cool & Keyroll M.D., and Phiwo Sax. Nxumalo said: “We are happy as tourism to have so many events this week (last week).
Collaboration
“These events are the Africa Carnival, which was done with the Africa Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Eswatini International Trade Fair, the Eswatini Rally, and Umhlanga on the weekend enkulu,” said Nxumalo. She went on to say: “We are happy that all these events took place at the same time, which creates something to do for our tourists. When they have something to do, they stay longer in the country, and they end up coming back. We are happy that South African rappers Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C were in the country and performed at Solani’s Shisanyama as well.”
Hosted
It is also worth noting that SA Gospel artist SbuNoah was also in the country on the same Friday as the SA rappers. SbuNoah was hosted by the Worship Centre for its youth camp. Nxumalo further said that tourism encouraged event promoters to organise more shows during the Umhlanga weekend. She said: “It must be a weekend enkulu so that at night people can have something to do. Eswatini nightlife is not yet pronounced, so we encourage event promoters to add more events so that our tourists can have something to do even after hours,” said the CEO. The EITF’s mascot, named Ngabisa, was a first-time feature at the EITF and made regular appearances throughout the trade fair. This past weekend saw the EITF host car spinning and drifting, and on the last day was a Gospel Sunday show, which was hosted by Kufeziwe Communications.
