Royal Leopard are 90 minutes away from defending their MTN Premier League title after securing a 2-0 win over Manzini Wanderers at Mhlume Stadium yesterday.
The police will have to beat Young Buffaloes to win the league title. ‘Ingwe Mabalabala’ made their bright start count in the 21 minute when Junior Magagula fired home from the penalty spot.
This was after a hand ball by centreback Sihle ‘Mbhalaza’ Mkhonta and the referee awarding the home side a penalty.
The defending champions continued to dominate possession as they would now and again threaten to score another goal. Wanderers tried to absorb the pressure as they defended resolutely from prolonged stages of the first half. The maroon and white side did not offer much in their attacks as they lost the ball cheaply when going forward.
The match went to break with Leopard leading 1-0. The side started the second stanza on the front foot as they doubled their lead through Lungelo Tsabedze, who finished off a cross from Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini.
The hub giants nearly pulled one back three minutes later when striker Fabrice Mopina’s strike went narrowly wide. Both coaches brought in fresh legs midway the second half. There was improvement for the hub giants after the changes as they pushed numbers forward. They were only let down by the final pass in the last third.
Leopard did not sit back as they also launched a number of attacks. With only 10 minutes left before the final whistle, the police side resorted to cautious play as they protected their lead until the referee blew the final whistle.
Ingwemabalabala are still enjoying a two-point lead at the top of the MTN Premier League log leaders ahead of second-placed Mbabane Highlanders.
Their last match will be against Young Buffaloes.
