JAPAN PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR ESWATINI’S DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Japan has declared its resolute commitment to support Eswatini’s national development, with a strong focus on key priority areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and food security.

This pledge was delivered by His Excellency Shimizu Fumio, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Eswatini, during a high-level diplomatic ceremony at Lozitha Palace where he presented his credentials to His Majesty King Mswati III.

Ambassador Fumio, who formally presented the Letter of Credence on behalf of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, expressed Japan’s intent to deepen its cooperation with Eswatini through various frameworks, including grant and technical assistance.

“Japan has been deeply committed to contributing to Eswatini’s priority areas. I look forward to further promoting our bilateral relations through strengthening the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of our two countries,” said Ambassador Fumio.

A Relationship Rooted in Support

Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1971, Japan and Eswatini have shared a strong, development-focused partnership. Japan’s involvement through initiatives like JICA has positively impacted many Swazi lives, from building rural infrastructure to improving healthcare systems and empowering the agricultural sector.

The ceremony reflected the continued relevance of this partnership, especially as Eswatini advances its economic and social development agenda under the leadership of His Majesty King Mswati III.

Strong Diplomatic Engagement

Ambassador Fumio also highlighted recent high-level engagements that signal the strength of bilateral relations. He celebrated the successful visit of Prime Minister, Russell Mmiso Dlamini, to Japan last month for the National Day of Eswatini at the Osaka Kansai Expo — a cultural exchange that further deepened mutual ties.

Looking ahead, His Majesty King Mswati III is scheduled to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) next month. During the visit, he is expected to meet with Japan’s Prime Minister and participate in a traditional Tea Ceremony at the Imperial Palace.

“TICAD reflects over 30 years of Japan’s commitment to Africa’s development,” said Ambassador Fumio. “We are honoured that His Majesty will grace the Summit with his presence.”

Shared Values, Shared Vision

At a time when the world faces pressing global challenges, Japan and Eswatini stand united in their desire to uphold shared values and work together toward peace, resilience, and sustainable development.

“In the midst of many uncertainties, I wish to work closely with Your Majesty and the Government of Eswatini to address global issues,” said Ambassador Fumio as he handed over the Letter of Credence and the Letter of Recall for his predecessor.

A Future Anchored in Cooperation

The warm reception at Lozitha Palace not only marked the official start of Ambassador Fumio’s tenure, but also laid the foundation for deeper cooperation that places Eswatini’s development at the heart of the bilateral agenda. As the two nations look to the future, Japan’s pledge of support stands as a powerful reminder that global partnerships can truly transform lives. Together for development. Together for progress.
