Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prince Simelane, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has defended Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini amid concerns over the establishment of the Anti Corruption Task Team and that, the PM might be using it to fight his political enemies.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister stated that, the Task Team was not established by the PM in his personal capacity but, as per King Mswati’s command directing Government as a collective, to fight corruption.
“This was a directive for the Prime Minister to ensure that the Executive addresses corruption decisively, following the concerns raised by Emaswati during Sibaya. As such, the Executive arm of government holds primary administrative responsibility for combating corruption and thus curbing corruption is a key performance measure for the Government,”reads a press statement in part, released by the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister on Sunday.
On another note, “there are concerns within the corridors of power” suggesting that, the establishment of the Anti Corruption Task Team undermined the independence of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) and the Anti Corruption Corruption(ACC), the Task Team reports to the Office of the Prime Minister.
