Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s film scene is gaining powerful momentum with the arrival of Khumbuni, a striking new short film directed by acclaimed filmmaker Siphosethu Sibandze. Produced by Ayeye Entertainment in collaboration with Rival Visuals, Oddly Theatre, and BigTime Beats, the film is poised to leave an emotional imprint on audiences with its raw and compassionate storytelling.

At its core, Khumbuni explores the transformative power of kindness and the human ability to connect across hardship. The film follows four lead characters — Lucia Steenkamp, Nkosinathi Sibandze, Nqobile Mavuso, and Nombali Dlamini — as they navigate personal struggles in a society that often overlooks quiet suffering. Through moments of unexpected compassion, they find healing, community, and renewed hope.

“It’s a story about how strangers can become each other’s lifelines,” says director Sibandze. “It’s deeply rooted in the Eswatini experience, and it reflects the strength that can be found in unity.”

The film also showcases striking visuals and a cinematic style that captures both the beauty and emotional complexity of Eswatini’s landscape and people. It’s more than a film — it’s an invitation to reflect on empathy, resilience, and the power of human connection.

While Khumbuni stands on its own as a powerful new project, it also builds on the solid foundation laid by Ayeye Entertainment. The production house gained national recognition with past titles like Lifa Lami, Dear Jesus, and the recently announced feature film Liphupho (A Dream), which will debut on YouTube (Eswatini Film Distributors) on 27 February 2025.

With each project, Ayeye Entertainment continues to raise the bar for local filmmaking, and Khumbuni is no exception.

Sibandze encourages all film lovers and supporters of the creative arts to watch the film and join the conversation it seeks to inspire. “It’s real, it’s honest, and it’s ours,” he says. “Khumbuni will move you — and make you think.
