KILLING ONE OTHER NOT THE SOLUTION – MPANDLANA

Africa-Press – Eswatini. People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) senior member, Mpandlana Shongwe, says as much as people may be angry, killing one another was not the solution.

Shongwe said people should be free to express themselves instead of killing one another.

He said for a very long time he had been angry and fighting for freedom of expression and that Emaswati should be allowed to say what they wanted and how they wanted their country to be governed.

“I have been angry for a long time and people said I was crazy, well I cannot allow people to be angrier than I am. If we are angry and do not see eye-to-eye, do we then need to kill each other,” said Shongwe.

He added that it was concerning that people were now throwing stones and knobkerries aimlessly and insisted that this was not the solution as he previously advocated for an open dialogue where people would be free to express themselves.

“People are throwing stones and knobkerries at each other, which begs the question what are we doing,” he said.

This he revealed yesterday where he clarified comments attributed to him over the weekend.

He said he was not surprised about how his statement made while in Canada was misinterpreted by the local media while insisting that the media in the country had no freedom.

“The story in one of the local weekend newspapers is not the same as the headline and I feel this was done deliberately in an attempt to twist my words. It is sad that we are now talking about this issue instead of focusing on new things,” said Shongwe.

He further stated that it was a pity that news consumers being the general public were swayed by what they read in headlines and decided to be analysts instead of reading the whole story. “News consumers are the press and easily swayed. We cannot all be analysts,” he said.
