Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has congratulated new Namibia’s President on her recent election into her country’s highest position.
Through Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, His Majesty the King acknowledged that Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has been the first female president in Namibia.
“On behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Government and People of the Kingdom of Eswatini, we congratulate H.E Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on being elected as the first female President elect of the Republic of Namibia,” the prime minister said.
The premier said they were confident that under her leadership, the Republic of Namibia would thrive and prosper economically, socially as well as politically.
“As Namibia gathers to celebrate and plan for the future, we reaffirm Eswatini’s desire to further enhance and consolidate the bonds of friendship and cooperation that exists between our two nations,” he said.
According to The Guardian, Nandi-Ndaitwah, the current vice-president, won with 57 percent of the vote, according to official results, defying predictions that she might be forced into a runoff.
She is a member of the South West African People’s Organisation (SWAPO). This political party has ruled the country since its independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990.
“The Namibian nation has voted for peace and stability,” Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, said after the final results were announced late on Tuesday (December3, 2024).
