King Mswati now wants to withdraw contempt of court application against editor.

Africa-Press – Eswatini. King Mswati now wants to withdraw the contempt of court application against editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.

This is contained in an email dated 19th April 2022 from Brian Kahn Inc Attorneys addressed to the editor’s lawyers Thinane Mabuza Inc Attorneys.

The King and the Government had filed an application accusing the editor of contempt of court by delaying the main application, this was vigorously opposed by Dlamini’s legal team, strong evidence to substantiate that the editor had no intention of delaying the main application was attached.

“We would prefer not to waste further time and money on the contempt application if we can avoid same; see paragraph 10 hereunder”, reads an email from Brian Kahn Inc Attorneys.

In the email, Mswati’s lawyer further proposed to engage the editor’s lawyer to try and reach a consensus on a practical way forward.

It is normal for lawyers to engage and discuss issues that might be resolved without going to court.

“I am traveling to Dubai and London this coming week but will phone you and let’s put our heads together and see if we can reach consensus on a practical way forward”, reads the email in part from the King’s lawyers.

On another note, editor Zweli Martin Dlamini, in his affidavit, prayed that the contempt of court be dismissed with costs.

The editor further produced evidence proving the physical address for this publication and a threat to his life after the then Army Commander Jeffery Shabalala revealed a plot to assassinate him.

This comes after Mswati through his lawyer denied any plot to kill the editor, he further accused Dlamini of avoiding to be served with court papers and using a physical address that does not exist just to delay the main application.

The main application is pending before the High Court of South Africa, Mpumalanga Division.
